What is practice and training like on an American university team?

Practice is generally quite intense, and can be a great way for a student to improve their athletic performance while studying abroad. An average practice session generally consists of at least two hours of daily training, and is supervised by coaches and assistant coaches. Training sessions are usually scheduled between morning and evening classes, often in the afternoon between 2 and 5 p.m. In addition to these practice sessions, teams are often scheduled for early morning or late night weightlifting or running sessions. Practice is generally quite strenuous, and is conducted in a professional manner. Athletes are generally trained to the point where they are qualified to enter the professional sports arena, and in fact many athletes do enter professional sports after completing their four years of college.
